Feng Shui is not a belief system. All living beings are subject to the conditions of their environment. Phenomena correlate with natural order and principles. Feng Shui is an ancient science rooted in all earth and mathematical sciences. Both natural and manmade phenomena such as shapes, colors, light, sound, movement, temperature, electromagnetic energy fields, geopathic stress, compass directions, air, water, and food all affect living beings.

The purpose of Feng Shui is to analyze the effect of environmental conditions on living beings, change negative aspects to positive, and harness the positive energy within any given space.

Living beings benefit by being exposed to positive energy that continuously supports, generates, and stimulates physical, mental, and emotional well being down to a cellular level. In essence, Feng Shui is the study of environmental effects on living beings and works to harmonize and align them within heaven and earth's energies.

Feng Shui operates under the universal law of "cause and effect." Einstein said, "If you want change, something has to move." Atoms are constantly moving within forms, nothing is stagnant for long. Day turns into night, summer into winter, etc. When we change anything within an environment, we change the energy within the space. Adding fresh flowers or music to a room completely changes the energy, as does cleaning, and rearranging furniture. New paint, flooring, or new furnishings change the energy. Opening a window changes the energy of a space as well, positively or negatively depending on the air quality verses what was present in the space. When we change environments we change the energy around us, which in turn affects our energy as well. Everyone has experienced positive, negative and neutral spaces, and therefore, has experienced Feng Shui principles at work. Many simply haven't had a name to attach to it. After a home or career move have you ever experienced certain areas of your life changing positively or negatively? This is confirmation that our environments affect us in many ways that are beyond most people's understanding, unless you're Feng Shui savvy of course!

Feng Shui helps us enhance our "earth luck" through increasing our awareness, mindfulness, and intention. It cannot change our "destiny luck" as that is something we have created up to the present moment, and continue to create by our current thoughts and actions.

Feng Shui is believed to have originated in China; however, similar principles have been discovered in other regions on earth including Hawaii.  Feng Shui literally means, "wind water." It was originally named Kan Yu, which means, "Raise the head and observe the sky above, lower the head and observe the environment around us." Feng Shui is an observation of the cycles of nature and requires associative resonant thinking for accurate comprehension.

Winston Churchill said, "We shape our dwellings, and afterwards our dwellings shape us." Universally Feng Shui consultants find it is very interesting how some people can immediately relate to Feng Shui principles and others can't. It seems that Feng Shui principles resonate more with people that are closer to nature either by spending more time outdoors, and/or eating a more natural diet. People that spend time close to water or in powerful earth energy spots like Sedona, Arizona are more in tune with nature and seem to naturally understand how deeply our environments affect us as well. The more people live in artificial environments, and consume more contaminated food, water, and air, the less they are able to realize the connection.

There is also a Karmic component; not everyone has generated the causes necessary to benefit from this powerful tool.  Since you are reading this you have, how fortunate you are!

Feng Shui analysis is multi-layered; therefore, all schools, methods, and approaches are relevant. Different modalities of analysis and remedies are appropriate under varying conditions. There are many consultants who study with one master and believe that is enough.  Inga Chandler, founder of Feng Shui Designs, believes this to be incorrect as there are so many considerations in Feng Shui analysis, in fact, absolutely everything within an environment is considered! The more masters one has studied with effectively ensures that nothing will be overlooked.

The basic layers of consideration include:
Everything within a 5-mile radius - Power and industrial plants, negative manmade structures such as water towers and power lines, landfill and dump sites, highways and street patterns, cemeteries, types of businesses, building types, neighborhood development, placement on a street, and water sites.

At a particular site - the immediate surroundings including cleanliness and maintenance, size and shape of lot, placement on lot, building size and shape, landscaping, sitting and facing directions, front door placement, location and facing direction, room shape, size and location within compass directions, occupant's supportive and destructive compass directions and elements, exterior/interior energy quality and movement (also written as chi, ki, or qi depending on what part of the world the information is coming from), clutter, cleanliness, organization, storage, maintenance, shapes, colors, materials, furniture and it's placement, symbolism energy of art and objects, energy clearing, electromagnetic energy fields, and energy efficiency. There are other considerations that are dependent upon the specific site.
